One Wild Ride is a new, limited-run literary journal sharing stories about caring for our aging parents and those who raised us.

What to Send (When We’re Open)

Previously published flash fiction, creative nonfiction, or hybrid stories about finding joy, sadness & meaning as we flex roles as both child and caretaker. I’m looking for stories about anyone who raised you (anyone!). Writers of all identities are encouraged to submit. Positive and negative stories are welcome (not everyone adores our parents – and that’s okay).

All accepted writers will be asked to contribute a 300-500 word reflection on writing about this topic.

I prefer flash <1,000 words, though longer stories will be considered too. Nothing over 3,000 words, please.

Don’t Send:

Anything with racism, violence, or gore will be immediately rejected.

Genre stories, ie hard science fiction, fantasy, romance, etc., although literary-speculative pieces are welcome.

Rights & Payment

I am currently accepting reprinted stories, so please check with your original publisher to ensure you hold the rights to share it again. One Wild Ride will take one-time rights to publish the piece on www.one-wild-ride.com in perpetuity, but the rights return to you immediately.

Payment

This project is self-funded, and thanks to the support of our friends at Mythic Picnic, I’m excited to share that payment for authors has been doubled to $20. Payment will be sent the week of your publish date via PayPal.

Last but not least, a sincere thank you to Stephanie King and the Philadelphia Writer’s Conference for lending us space on Submittable when we were open!
